Citizens Advice: three senior appointments

Citizens Advice is the leading national charity providing high quality advice, and improves the policies and practices that directly affect people's lives.  Via 300 local Citizens Advice offices, 281 courts and 25,000 volunteers they provide free, independent, confidential and impartial advice to everyone on rights and responsibilities, and the Citizens Advice Witness Service.

Following a strategic review and identification of key priorities for a ‘one service’ strategy, the Director of People and Equality wanted to recruit three Heads of service to shape, drive and implement his division’s strategic priorities between now and 2020. Prospectus was appointed to work as their exclusive recruitment partner, chosen for the range of skills and experience we could bring to the process, the level of resource we committed – two highly experienced consultants from the Senior Appointments team - as well as an in depth knowledge of the sector and beyond.

After a detailed discussion to understand the background, focus and objectives of each role, we agreed a comprehensive attraction campaign for all three positions, featuring a bespoke microsite, editorial pieces and sector specific advertising.

The microsite incorporated information on Citizens Advice’s new strategy, social media content and bespoke digital design work, and played a key role in the process and had a significant impact in attracting high quality candidates to the positions.

Each application was assessed against selection criteria, and all longlisted candidates undertook a rigorous first round interview with Prospectus’ consultants.  From this process a final shortlist was agreed based on Prospectus’ recommendations.  All interview co-ordination was managed by Prospectus.

It is important to us that candidates are treated with care and consideration; we ensure that communication is timely and of high quality at all stages of the process.  This includes advice around the interviews, providing feedback at each stage of the process, including to those who were unsuccessful, in a helpful and constructive manner.

For each of the three roles, we were able to provide Citizens Advice with a selection of qualified and motivated candidates, and all offers were accepted by their first choice.
