Chair

Leap is the UK’s only national organisation specialising in the creative management of youth conflict, providing young people with the skills to manage conflict in their own lives, reduce violence in their communities and help lead our society.

Over the last few years Leap has successfully increased the focus of its work and seen growth in its impact. The team of staff, trainers and trustees have seen the organisation’s reputation and influence among those who work with young people increase in esteem and reach. Its staff, trainer teams and board have developed strongly too and income has climbed in 2015, on the back of significantly increased impact in 2014.

With demand and interest in its work and research continuing to rise, Leap sought to identify an inspiring and creative individual with a deep commitment to the work, who values the potential of young people, is passionate about their growth and development, who understands the challenges they face and who would bring active networks from within the business and philanthropy sectors.

Prospectus was retained to support and carefully integrate with Leap’s own efforts to build a robust range of candidates.  The final shortlist included a very strong range of contacts from both Prospectus’s and Leap’s networks representing leaders from business and philanthropy.  Leap is delighted that it has appointed as its next chair, Mark Spelman, a former global managing director responsible for thought leadership in Accenture, who is also a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Europe and a member of their Advisory Board on Sustainability and Competitiveness.

Thomas Lawson, Leap’s CEO: our request to Prospectus was unusual – we wanted to have full contact at each stage of the recruitment process with all people who demonstrated real interest in the role and the organisation.  As a result we not only have an excellent new chair but a whole new range of senior contacts who are now supporting income generation strategically and offering senior level pro bono support on key business areas.
