Out of the Dark is a social enterprise that recycles, repurposes and revamps salvaged furniture as a means to train, educate and employ young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The organisation was originally established under the umbrella charity Street Dreams, with the intention of engaging and encouraging disadvantaged youths through sports, media and the arts. Their aim is to teach under 25s ethics and work-life skills in a safe and supported environment to help them make a transition into paid work. They provide young people with the advice, skills and confidence to encourage them to participate in society as mature, responsible individuals.
Out of the Dark was established in April 2014 as an extension to this work, with the aim of continuing to expand the reach of Street Dreams.
In order to achieve this ambition, Out of the Dark sought to appoint a new Chair to provide strategic leadership to the Board, and a Treasurer to advise the Board on the management of their financial affairs.
Prospectus successfully appointed a retail professional who currently runs his own small up-cycled ladies footwear business, and a senior finance professional from one of the UK’s largest charities.
