Chair and Trustee

Prospectus is pleased to announce Chair and Trustee appointments at SafeLives

SafeLives is the national charity dedicated to ending domestic abuse, for good. They combine insight from services, survivors and statistics to support people to become safe and well and to help them rebuild their lives. Since 2005, SafeLives has worked with organisations across the country to transform the response to domestic abuse, with over 60,000 victims at highest risk of murder or serious harm now receiving coordinated support annually.

After six years as Chair of SafeLives, Clare Maurice will be stepping down from the Board in September 2017 at the end of her second term.

Isabel Boyer has joined the Board as a Trustee and Chair Designate and will become Chair in September. She will also be joined on the Board by Hannah Clare as a Trustee, with a particular responsibility for safeguarding. Hannah is currently Head of Global Safeguarding for Oxfam GB.

Isabel joins the Board with a wealth of experience at Board level in the private, public and charitable sectors with a particular focus on health, including women’s health. She is currently on the Board of the National Institute for Health Research. She joins SafeLives at an exciting time for the charity as it develops a number of key partnerships and she will lead the Board in the appointment of a new CEO to succeed their founder, Diana Barran.

Clare Maurice said: “It has been an enormous privilege to have been part of SafeLives during this period of considerable growth and dynamism. I have watched with great pride how SafeLives has, through its pioneering work, transformed the response to domestic abuse in the UK. I am also delighted we have found Isabel to lead the Board in my place and I’m sure she will be a great success. Finally, I must thank my fellow trustees, Diana and all at SafeLives for their support throughout my tenure.”

Isabel Boyer said: “I am delighted to be joining SafeLives as Chair at this important and exciting time. I have been immensely impressed by the impact SafeLives has had, under Diana’s leadership, since 2004. As Chair, I will lead a partnership of the Board of Trustees, the new CEO, senior executives and all the staff in taking SafeLives through the next stages of its development. I look forward to working with the Trustees, staff and especially the Pioneers to continue improving the support for survivors of domestic abuse and their families.”
