Young Manchester is a CIO set up to develop a new way of working to support youth and play services for children and young people across Manchester, by collaborating with partner agencies to commission work at a local level. Their long-term goal is to make Manchester a world-class city for children and young people, where they have opportunities in their local community to fulfil their full potential and contribute to the future of the city.
The charity is currently in its infancy and the founding Trustees came to Prospectus seeking to recruit an experienced and dynamic individual as the first ever Chief Executive. We were tasked with identifying candidates who were experienced leaders, with a genuine commitment to affecting positive change in children and young people’s lives. The successful candidate would need to evidence sound commercial acumen and an entrepreneurial approach, as well as outstanding strategic and inspirational leadership abilities with knowledge of the charity / youth sector and ideally of the Manchester area.
The Trustees appointed Michelle Farrell-Bell from a shortlist of five candidates. Michelle was the Regional Director of Teens and Toddlers UK, who run a range of programmes which inspire disadvantaged young people. Michelle brought a successful London-based charity to the North West and extended its reach from working within two Local Authorities to its current programme spanning over twenty Authorities across the North. Michelle is passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people and has over thirty years’ experience of local and regional government in the Manchester area.
